Learning about Each Other

Students in Miss Delisle's third grade class took some time to get to know one another.  In the process, they found that one of the students in the class speaks Russian.  Joanna, whos family comes from the Ukraine, spoke to her fellow classmates about growing up in a household that speaks Russian.  She also demonstrated for the students the Russian alphabet and answered questions about how to say certain words.  It was a great experience for the students and the teacher alike.

Attendance Matters

With the school year well under way, we'd like to take a moment to recognize students that have completed 100% attendance since the first day of school. You will see in the coming months as students with perfect attendance will earn a chance to have their names entered and drawn for an attendance incentive prize.

We feel that attendance is very important and key in the growth and learning of our student population.

For the month of August we congratulate: Jaden M. and Amber H.

Mystery Skyping Fun

Our new  AP Human Geography class participated in an interactive activity today with another AP class in Iowa.  From withinthe four walls of their classroom, the class skyped with the other class and played a mystery game of where are you.  Through geography hints and map skills, the students had to locate the other class.  They "found" where we were first, but we practiced our map skills.

To the delight of many students at Matthews Elementary, Learning Lab has begun for the 2018 -2019 school year and students are already enjoying the activities.  Kindergarten students pictured below worked on Letter Recognition, while the Fourth grade students worked on some Chemistry skills by making slime.  They can't wait to see everyday what activities are waiting for them every day!
