Laissez les bons temps rouler -

Let the good times roll!

Students and staff at Matthews Elementary were treated to a Mardi Gras tradition with "Traditional King Cakes" courtesy of Rochelle Fielder and Jon Gregory Delisle, the daughter and husband of the late Celia Delisle.  Mrs. Celia was employed at Matthews Elementary for many years and started the tradition of having King Cakes at school for everyone to enjoy.  Her family has kept her memory and tradition alive by sending these yummy treats to us again!

Thank you so much Rochelle and Mr. Delisle!!!

Alumni Monday at NMCC

NMCC was proud to welcome back some of our alumni on Monday.  Nick Hunter, Marquita Buchanan Parker, Dr. Stacey Thatch Grays, Matt Hampton, Dr. Xavier Tipler, Ozell Graham, and Russ Barnes returned to the halls of NMCC to talk with students about their own experiences at NMCC and how those experiences have taken them to where they are now.

Students in the Matthews Learning Lab 3rd - 5th grade group learned a lot about coding in an unusual way; they used Legos!

Students were given a maze so they can have a frame of reference for setting their character up to get out of the maze.  Once they place the figure at the START point of the maze, they would then have to figure out which steps to take to get the character to the END.  To do this, the students would have to pull from different directions to manipulate their characters next move until they are out of the maze.  This is a great way to introduce problem solving and learn what it means to "code" programs.

The Health Occupations class is teaching the Biomedical class how to take blood pressure.  The best way to learn is by teaching others.

SkillUSA gives Back!

The SkillsUSA students of New Madrid Technical Skills Center delivered hygiene packages including deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush and a toothbrush holder and presented a check for $290 to our friends at Campbell R-II so they can start their own Camel Closet. Our #SkillsUSAMissouri students from New Madrid Technical Skills Center volunteered their time to host a parents night out event. The event was to raise the money to help our friends in Campbell get this started. The students really enjoyed surprising the school administrator today with these gifts.
