The Pro-Start (culinary) class received a demonstration from Mr. Gustavo Marquez, who is also an Advisory committee member for this class.    Mr. Marquez is the owner of Las Brisas in Malden and 7 other restaurants in the surrounding area.  His son Cesar attends New Madrid Technical Skills Center in conjunction with Risco.  Mr. Marquez provided a demonstration on how to make tacos and fajitas.  He provided the students with a look into his past growing up in Mexico and how his determination and faith allowed him to build his business which has over 100 employees.  He discussed customer service and how building your clientele is very important in a small business.  The students greatly enjoyed the demonstration and taste testing.  We greatly appreciate Mr. Marquez time and support for our school.  THANK YOU!!!

Health Science Dissection

The health science students learning about anatomy get to dissect cow eyes.  A cow eye is very similar to the eye of a human. By dissecting and examining the anatomy of a preserved cow eye, you can learn how your own eye forms images of the world and sends these images to your brain. This dissection allows the students to get an idea of what the eye looks like inside.

Some of our SkillsUSA Leaders attended "Trunk or Treat" at New Madrid Elementary.  The students enjoyed handing out candy to the students.

Our SkillsUSA leadership team joined other SkillsUSA leaders from around the state to learn about the qualities and characteristics of good leaders.  The students not only learned about leadership, but also learned about the SkillsUSA organization and the different officer positions within this great organization.  A great time and new friends were made during this event.

The students in PBS recently performed a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) and Insulin test on Anna (our victim) and two other patients.  It was determined that Anna was a Type 1 Diabetic while one of the other patients was a Type 2 Diabetic.  They are now creating models to demonstrate how insulin signals glucose transport proteins to open, reducing the level of glucose in the blood stream.  They will then demonstrate what happens when a patient has both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

Well ask one of Mrs. Gloria Houston's Health Occupation students.  The students learned the proper technique in preparing a resident for mealtime and how to feed the resident.  The students had a great time with this learning lab.
