NEW for 2017-18 at NMCR1: Building on a Tradition of Excellence!

It takes everyone pulling together to fulfill our promise to our community to be “Better Than Our Best!” We have a great foundation made possible by dedicated faculty, staff, and administration who came before us.

As we continue forward, our efforts are guided by our Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) categories: RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP, COMMUNICATION, PERSONNEL, and EDUCATION/INSTRUCTION/ACHIEVEMENT.

With our CSIP in mind, the following list has become a reality for 2017-18:


  • Balanced Annual Operating Budget
  • Numerous Facility Improvements Affecting Each School Site
  • Reconditioning of Our Technical Skills Program and Facility to Be More Competitive, Effective and Attractive for 9-12th Grade Students
  • Refinished Gym Floors at CMS and NMCC and Repaired Bleachers
  • Newly installed, 80/20 grant funded, high-speed Internet fiber to all three elementary schools vastly improving the flow of information among the buildings and to the web
  • Safer Bus Parking Area Paved By the New Madrid County Highway Department Saving NMCR1 $140,000


  • New Building Leadership Teams at Each School with Newly Developed Guiding-Principles at Each School
  • New, On-the-Job, Research-Based Instructional Leadership Coaching for Building Principals
  • District Focus on Implementing New Systems and Structures for Orderly, Collaborative Implementation of New Initiatives
  • Further Development of Faculty Data-Team Meetings to Lead the Implementation of Instructional Practices that Have Been Proven to Work 


  • K-5th Grade Open Houses the Evening Before School Starts
  • New Parent-Friendly Website at
  • District and Program-Based Facebook Pages Linked to New District Website
  • New and Improved Parent Portal and Automated Phone Calling System to Keep Parents Informed
  • Continued Development of Our Alumni Outreach


  • Retaining High Quality Employees: Restored Salary Steps to 2017-18 Level for All NMCR1 Employees
  • Restored and Improved Employee Health Benefits for 2017-18 at a Reduced Cost to All Employees
  • Recruiting High Quality Employees: Continuing to Offer Incentives to Veteran Teachers to Announce Upcoming Retirements at the Earliest Convenience to Allow Us to Recruit and Hire the Most Highly Qualified Candidates
  • For 2017-18 We Are Able to Replace 10 Highly Qualified Retirees with 13 New Highly Qualified Classroom Teachers, All with Appropriate Bachelor Degrees and Certification, 5 Bringing Masters Degrees in Their Fields, and Averaging 6 Years of High Quality Experience (The Additional 3 Faculty Members Come at No Additional Cost to the District)


  • $399,000 Grant Awarded for 2nd Year Extended Day Learning Lab with Improvements at ALL Schools
  • New Student Data System Providing A Better Understanding of Student Academic Performance and Needs
  • Common Planning Hour for all Grade 6-12th Math, SS, ELA and Science Teachers
  • New Strategies for Encouraging Students to Attend School
  • New State of the Art Instructional Programs Led and Implemented by Teachers Across the District
