Students in the Screen Printing Classes have been learning all the steps it takes to make a screen printed t-shirt.
The first step is Design. The students sit down at a computer and actually design, in Illustrator, what they want on the shirt.
The second step is to apply emulsion to the screen and then allow enough time to dry in the darkroom.
At this time, the students print a positive of the design on the inkjet printer.
Next, the students align and tape the positive onto the screen and place in exposure unit for a preset time.
The next step is to rinse out with water and allow to dry completely in the darkroom.
After it is dry, the students tape off the exposed screen.
Once it is taped, the students positions in frame of press, flood ink and screen the print.
Garments are then placed in dryer and checked for curing temperature.
After the garments are printed, screens are reclaimed with a chemical process and placed in the darkroom to dry to be ready for the next job.
After all of these steps are completed, the students have a finished product.
