Hello! My name is Benjamin Belanger and I am thrilled to be here in New Madrid to direct Choir and start a new Guitar program. My musical education started in Greencastle, Indiana where I began singing, playing drum set, and learning guitar at about the age of 11. I continued to take private lessons in several instruments growing up and ended up playing snare drum and jazz set in High School in Berthoud, Colorado. In college I sang Tenor in the Wheaton College gospel choir while continuing to play guitar and drum set in several musical groups. I ended up at the University of Northern Colorado where I got my Masters in Music Ed, studying choral education and classical guitar, while also playing in jazz combos.
I ended up in southeast Missouri when I met my wife, who is from the area. Before coming to NMC R-1, I taught in Jackson and Cape Girardeau, where I started a guitar program.
I have continued performing in many areas as I have all my life– including weddings and other local gigs in Southeast Missouri–and the adventure continues!
I am really happy to be working with Mr Flood, Mr. Blocker and Mr. Clark in the music program at New Madrid County!
CMS is excited and happy to welcome Mr. Belanger to the family!
