Extended Day Tutoring and Enrichment

NMCR1 acquired a 5 year 21st Century Communities Learning Center grant (renewable every 5 years) that has allowed us to extend our school day. We have just completed year-one. This $1.8 million grant allows us 300 additional hours with our students each year with one hour before and two hours after school 4 days each week beginning in late August and running through Mid-April.

Our grant program runs on our Learning Lab concept, which is designed to develop assessment-capable, career oriented-learners. NMCR-1 Learning Labs are run in each of our 5 sites (including three K-5, one 6-8, and one 9-12 school sites). Learning Labs provide both tutoring and enrichment (STEAM-AG). One hour before school at each site, Tuesday-Friday is designated for tutoring. Whereas, two hours after school on Monday-Thursday is used for either subject-specific tutoring or enrichment. In our first year we received accolades from the Missouri Department of Education for our unique and effective approaches to extended day education.
