TSC Welding Classes are officially out in the shop learning how to OXY- ACETYLENE weld. We are welding Old School first! One of the oldest welding methods. Developed in 1903 and the first welding shop to open in the USA using this method was in 1906. The reason for learning this method is to continue the skill and it helps develop how to read the metal and the molten puddle that is used in most every weld process. It is something that isn't taught in many schools anymore. It uses only two gases and a torch. No electricity is needed. This sets the students up to become better welders in all the processes taught here.

We are proud to recognize three outstanding FBLA members who represented our chapter at the State Leadership Conference in Springfield, Missouri this year.
Accompanied by Mr. Howell and Ms. Eddy, these students demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and strong business skills throughout the competition. One of our members advanced to the final round of a Business Workshop Challenge—an impressive accomplishment at the state level.
The photos capture highlights from the experience, including the state awards ceremony and the three students who represented our school with excellence.
Congratulations to these FBLA members for their hard work and achievement. We are proud of how they represented our chapter and look forward to their continued success.

Cadet teachers from Ms. Amy's Teaching Pathways class applied their knowledge of lesson planning and instructional methods by reading a variety of children’s literature from James Dean (Pete the Cat books), Mo Willems (Pigeon books), and Laura Numeroff (If You Give a...books) to Head Start (ages 3-5) and Early Head Start (age 2) students. After studying how to plan engaging lessons and interact with young learners, the cadets prepared and delivered read-aloud activities designed to capture students’ attention and encourage participation. The Head Start students responded with excitement, energy, and enthusiasm, staying actively engaged throughout the experience. This opportunity allowed cadet teachers to practice their instructional skills while creating a fun and positive learning environment for the young students. Thanks to DAEOC's New Madrid Early Learning Center for inviting us over to share our love of reading with your kiddos.

Last week, our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students had the opportunity to tour the Career Center and explore the many programs available to them for the future. Students visited classrooms, met instructors, and learned more about the hands-on experiences and career pathways offered right here in our building.
From Health Occupations and Criminal Justice to Welding, Auto Technology, Culinary, Teaching, Building Trades, Business, Graphic Arts, and more, students were able to see firsthand the skills they can begin developing while still in high school.
We love giving our students the chance to explore their interests and start planning for their futures early. The possibilities are wide open at the Technical Skills Center! 🦅💚💛

ProStart Classroom Highlights – This Week in the Kitchen
This week, our ProStart students dove into the five French mother sauces established by Auguste Escoffier — and I’m proud to say they successfully prepared all five. These classical sauces are the foundation of professional cooking and require precision, patience, and strong technique.
The most challenging (and most rewarding) sauce of the week was Hollandaise, which pushed students to master temperature control, emulsification, and timing. Watching them troubleshoot and succeed was a great reminder that fundamentals matter.
In addition to sauces, students:
Practiced poaching pears to build dessert and moist-heat cooking skills
Worked on chicken fabrication as preparation for the upcoming SkillsUSA Culinary Competition
Lots of learning, lots of hands-on practice, and lots of growth in the kitchen this week. Very proud of the effort these students are putting in as they continue to build real-world culinary skills.

Students in National Honor Society at NMCC proudly hosted this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2025. The event honored the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans through student performances, guest speakers, and a tribute recognizing those who have served in all branches of the armed forces.
Veterans were escorted to their seats by members of NHS, with help from the top nine members of the sophomore class. Mr. Marlon Maltbia gave an inspiring speech to the crowd. He told students, "It’s about courage, commitment, and character—values that matter whether you’re on a battlefield, a basketball court, or in a classroom." He also shared, "And I hope you’ll also ask yourself: How can I serve? Maybe not in uniform—but in your school, your community, or your family. Because serving others—doing something bigger than yourself—is what makes this country truly great." Students were quiet and soaking in every word of Mr. Maltbia's presentation.
The NMCC Band, led by Ethan Flood and Jeremy Frazier, provided several patriotic selections throughout the event, and the Singing Eagles, led by Matt McCollum, sang the "National Anthem" and "This is My Country". William Campbell, a senior Band member, played Taps after a moment of silence. Veterans were treated to a delicious breakfast, prepared by Sarah Springer and the Culinary students. It was an honor to host and honor Veterans during the assembly. God Bless America!

Our students had an incredible opportunity Friday at the New Madrid County R-1 Technical Skills Center annual Career Fair! Nearly 30 colleges, businesses, and industries joined us to share information about career paths, training programs, and job opportunities available both locally and beyond.
Students were able to talk one-on-one with college representatives about programs they offer, what it takes to get accepted, and the degrees or certifications they can earn. They also met with local employers to learn about available jobs, the skills and education needed for those positions, and what makes a great employee.
Events like this help our students explore their options, make connections, and start planning for life after high school. We want our students to see the amazing opportunities right here in our area — and we hope many will choose to stay, build their careers, and continue contributing to our community! 💚💛
A huge thank you to all of the colleges, businesses, and organizations who came out to support our students and help them take their next steps toward a bright future! 🌟

Mrs. O'Dell's Criminal Justice class recently had a refresher lesson on fingerprints. They started off by making a "plastic" print in playdough and examined their own ridge patterns. Then they "dusted and lifted" fingerprints from cups that random staff and administration had touched earlier in the day. Each student chose one "suspect" to take fingerprints from. The students were able to not only identify the fingerprint patterns of each person, but the afternoon class was able to identify the suspect from each cup! Suspects were Mr. Shack, Mr. Hartman, Ms. Cindy, Mrs. Roshawnda, Ms. Kelly, Ms. McElveen, Mrs. Lock, Ms. Cockrell, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Rae Jean, and Mr. Anthony Roberts.

Judge Brandon Sanchez recently visited the Criminal Justice class to talk to them about his job and what all it entails. He answered every question the students had about his position, how to plan college to become an attorney, etc. Judge Sanchez also had a mock trial with the students. He gave each of them a role such as attorneys, jury, and defendants. He spoke to each student about their hopes and plans for their careers and life goals. He was an amazing classroom guest!!

The Criminal Justice class started off the year with the sheriff of New Madrid County, Mr. Joey Higgerson and the sheriff of Dunklin County, Mr. Nick Darter coming to talk to the students. Both of these guys are alumni of NMCC and we were glad to welcome them back. They were able to share lots of great information with our students about their job and law enforcement.
